Description
Commemorative paperweight made by French factory, St Louis, celebrating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth 2nd in 1953. This is a faceted medium sized weight, containing a sulphide of the Queens head in a sideways view. The weight itself has a dark ground which normally appears dark red, but can seem to alter colour. Depending on where it is placed it can appear mid-red, or almost black, or even underlain with a dark green tint.
Very well made indeed, as per the standard of St Louis. Expensive initially.Excellent condition, but note that a small piece of cullet is near the surface of the facet window to the right hand side, It can just be seen in 1st photo in the gallery but does not detract from attractive display. Engraved on the back with the coronation date. It measures 65mm or 2 5/8th ins diameter. Ref: 01954
